Shadow Dungeon Demo vs Full Game: What the Demo Includes
The Demo’s Status, Officially
From the 0.4.0 announcement (May 2026): “The demo version will not receive any further major updates. We will focus on developing the full version going forward.” The demo remains free on Steam and is a fair sampler of combat feel and the retro presentation — but it represents the early-access-era build, not 1.0.
Demo players did their job well: it drew streams and reviews months before launch, and review threads note players discovering the game through it days before release.
What 1.0 Has That the Demo Doesn’t
The full release’s headline systems (all from the official 1.0 notes):
- 160 main story levels (~30-50 hours) with rebalanced pacing — walkthrough
- Expanded equipment system: 1,000+ affixes in 5 categories, 2,400 weapon-granted skills — items
- Greater Rifts at 4 difficulties with rift-exclusive runes and stones — rift guide
- Class sets: 15 per class, most altering skill forms
- Paragon Talent Tree at the level 100 cap — Paragon
- Treasure Sprites, the rebuilt character stats panel, mouse-movement rework and full controller auto-targeting
Should You Try the Demo First?
If you’re on the fence about the retro late-90s style, yes — that’s exactly what the demo answers, free. If you already know you want a Diablo-2-style loot ARPG, the $9.99 full release is where all the systems above live, and our beginner guide picks up from minute one. The Steam verdict so far: Very Positive (our review roundup).
