Shadow Dungeon Walkthrough: 160-Level Campaign Structure
Campaign at a Glance
| Fact | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Story levels | 160 | Official 1.0 release notes |
| Expected playtime | ~30-50 hours | Official 1.0 release notes |
| Level at story end | ~99-100 (cap: 100) | Official 1.0 release notes |
| Scaling | Monster level & drops tied to map | Official 1.0 release notes |
| After the story | Greater Rifts (4 difficulties) | Official 1.0 release notes |
The 1.0 update explicitly rebalanced level progression so the campaign carries you to the cap without side grinding. If you’re under-leveled for a map, the fix is gearing (see items), not repeating old zones — old maps drop old loot.
The World You’re Walking Through
The store description lays out the campaign’s environment arc: eerie dungeons, ancient temples, scorching deserts, haunted ruins, “distant realms beyond reality and the depths of hell itself.” Enemy variety runs monsters, demons, undead warriors, cyclopes, cultists, evil spirits and zombies. The final antagonist is the Demon Lord who “lurks beneath the abyss.”
Chapter-level spoiler maps aren’t officially published; what’s confirmed is structural — the 0.4.0 update alone added a chapter with 10 bosses across 30 levels, which gives a feel for boss density across the full 160 (boss notes).
Pacing Advice by Phase
Levels 1-30 (opening chapters): Pick your class spine and turn on the 1.0 quality-of-life features (beginner guide). Drops are training wheels; equip anything with a granted skill.
Mid-campaign: This is where map-based scaling starts rewarding aggression. Elite packs guard the affix categories your build wants; the one-button buff-potion key earns its keep.
Late campaign (approaching 160): You should be closing on level 99-100 naturally. Start reading set affixes seriously — the 15-per-class sets you’ll chase in rifts begin dropping, and your rift starter build forms here.
After the Credits
Finishing the main story unlocks Greater Rifts at four difficulties with rift-exclusive loot, and hitting the cap opens the Paragon talent tree. That’s the actual endgame loop — the campaign is the tutorial for it.
